hungry like the wolf

Wolves disappeared from most of their range in the Lower 48 because they scared us too much. But they still run under the moonlight here. And they are finding chained-up dogs to be easy meals.

Tim Mowry, ace of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner's staff, wrote about another large dog reduced to scraps of collar and a few pieces of intestine in an article today. His lede is like something from a fiction novel:

"A wolf pack that has been commuting between North Pole and Two Rivers for the past month, eating pet dogs as they go, has apparently struck again . . ."
