Iditarod fires the imagination
It's coming down to the wire in this year's Iditarod. Lance Mackey and Paul Gebhardt are approaching Elim right now in a race that's been cold, windy, a grind. Great coverage by Jon Little on Cabela's Iditarod website: http://www.cabelasiditarod.com/ It's impossible to root against Lance Mackey. He lived in a tent with his family on the Kenai Peninsula a while back, saying they looked like the Beverly Hillbillies driving down the road with a mattress on top of the camper. He's had cancer, drives a beater pickup to races and won a cold Yukon Quest less than three weeks ago. You know the dude had no chance to recover from that sleep-deprivation fest, and here he is at the front of the Big Race. Keep on rollin', Lance.
